Making sure WILO works correctly on your website.

WILO looks at your site’s content to find links.

If your site is not built overly well and does not use semantic markups such as sections, asides, navigation and footers, the plugin can get confused about what content it should scan for links.

Make sure your site is built for the SERPs.

If your site confuses WILO, it’s 100% going to confuse the search engines, so if the plugin is throwing lots of false positives in terms of potential internal links, your code may well be to blame.

WILO effectively examines your site in a similar way to a search engine bot, so it will give you some indication about how well your link structure will be perceived by bots.

Technical optimisation.

Technical optimisation, which is another aspect of SEO will be needed if your site is not built correctly.

As you have a WordPress site, it could be that you are using an old or outdated theme or one that’s just badly built.

If you are trying to rank in the search results, the quality of your site build is another ranking factor, so it’s best to get this sorted.

If you need help, the team behind WILO also build bespoke WordPress sites, so they can help you improve your website through technical optimisation or a complete redesign and rebuild (should that be required).

False positives.

As WILO scans all your content, a few false-positive link opportunities may crop up when you search for link opportunities.

Typically, these may include:

  • Archive pages
  • Pages with post loops (you may also like to read etc)
  • Sitemaps

WILO reports these as current linking pages as the content for these types of pages is usually within an <article> or <main> tag, which is where WILO likes to hunt for internal linking opportunities.

Although linking pages like these do affect the score that WILO gives your page, you can simply work around them.

Future updates.

We are working on a back-end admin page for WILO where you can tell the plugin what elements you would like to exclude from the search, so join our mailing list to be the first to know when.
